How to check a New Jersey cannabis dispensary
Look the dispensary up in the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission’s (NJ-CRC) dispensary finder before you buy.1 It shows whether the store serves recreational customers or medical patients only.2 In the store, look for the NJ-CRC license on display. If you can’t find the store on the map, or it doesn’t check IDs or show its license, don’t buy there.

1. Search NJ-CRC’s dispensary finder
NJ-CRC tells shoppers to check its dispensary map before they go. Licensed dispensaries are added once they tell NJ-CRC they are open.1
- Go to NJ-CRC’s dispensary finder .
- Search by zip code, city, dispensary type or business name.1
- Check whether the store serves recreational customers or medical patients only, and whether it offers delivery.2
- Check that the name and address match the store’s sign or website.
NJ-CRC says to contact the store to confirm details like hours and delivery.2 If a store isn’t on the map, don’t buy there until you can confirm its license.
You can also look for the business in NJ-CRC’s list of permitted and licensed businesses . It shows each business’s type, towns and the year its license expires. Every license must be renewed each year.3
2. What to look for at the store
- An ID check for everyone. Licensed stores must check that every customer is 21 or older. Medical patients 18 and older can shop at medical dispensaries.1
- The NJ-CRC license on display. Stores must post their yearly NJ-CRC license where you can see it. If you can’t find it, ask.1
- A fixed storefront. Licensed stores have a permanent address, not a pop-up, parking lot or backpack.1
- New Jersey products only. All cannabis sold in licensed stores is grown and made in New Jersey. Out-of-state products are a warning sign.1
- Tax and a receipt. Legal stores charge sales tax and give a receipt.1
3. If you order delivery
- Only a licensed dispensary’s own staff or a licensed delivery service may deliver, and only to a home in New Jersey after you order.4
- The driver must check your photo ID in person at the door before handing over your order.4
- Orders can’t be left on a porch, in a mailbox or at a P.O. box, and can’t go to federal land.4
- The dispensary finder shows which stores offer delivery.2
4. Check the label and keep the package
Licensed products carry New Jersey’s universal THC symbol and warnings, including “This product contains cannabis” and the Poison Control number. The label lists total THC and CBD, the batch or lot number and the expiration date.5
Edibles can have up to 10 mg of THC per serving, and single-serve drinks up to 5 mg.6 An edible package can hold up to 100 mg.5
NJ-CRC recall notices list the product name, maker and batch number. If you have a recalled product, don’t use it. Return it to the store or throw it away.7 Keep the package so you can match it. See NJ-CRC’s recalls .
Hemp shops are different
A hemp or CBD shop is not an NJ-CRC-licensed dispensary. Since April 13, 2026, hemp products with more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container count as cannabis under state law, and man-made cannabinoids are banned. No product with THC can be sold to anyone under 21.8
Businesses with certain state liquor licenses, and licensed dispensaries, may sell hemp THC drinks until November 13, 2026. Since May 31, 2026, these drinks are limited to 5 mg of THC per serving and 10 mg per container.8
