How to check a Florida medical marijuana treatment center
In Florida, only licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers (MMTCs) may sell medical marijuana, and only to registered patients and caregivers with an active ID card. Check the center on the state’s list before you buy. If it isn’t listed with dispensing authorization, don’t buy there.

1. Make sure your registry card is active
You need an active Medical Marijuana Use Registry ID card to buy medical marijuana and to have it.1 A card lasts one year. You can send a renewal starting 45 days before it expires.1
You can log into the registry to see the orders your qualified physician placed for you.2 For help, call OMMU’s patient helpline at 800-808-9580 .2
2. Check the treatment center on the state’s list
OMMU’s list shows each licensed treatment center’s legal name, its store name (“d/b/a”), its authorization status and its license number.3
- Go to OMMU’s list of treatment centers .
- Find the business by its store name or its legal name.
- Check the status. It should say Dispensing Authorization. OMMU says each treatment center must be authorized to grow, to process and to dispense before it may dispense.3 A center listed as “Initial Licensure” does not show dispensing authorization yet.
- Use the location search on the same page to check that the store’s address is a listed dispensing location.3
Delivery: treatment centers may deliver to registered patients and caregivers. If there is no treatment center in your city, you can arrange a delivery.2 At least two people must be in a delivery vehicle.4
3. Check the label
A treatment center’s label must show its name, the batch and harvest numbers, the date dispensed, your physician’s name and your name, the THC and CBD amounts, the recommended dose, a warning that giving medical marijuana to another person is illegal, and the state’s marijuana universal symbol.4 Keep it in its original package.4
Warning signs
- Anyone else selling “medical marijuana.” Only licensed treatment centers may sell it. Buying from anyone else breaks state law.54
- A seller that takes an out-of-state card. Florida does not accept medical cards from other states.5
- Edibles shaped like candy, cartoons or animals. Treatment center edibles may not look like candy or be shaped like people, cartoons or animals.4
Hemp and CBD shops are not treatment centers
Hemp products are sold under a separate state hemp program. Hemp extract products that you eat or inhale can’t be sold to anyone under 21. Their package must have a barcode or QR code that links to a lab report (certificate of analysis) for the batch.6
If something doesn’t look right
You can file a complaint about a treatment center with OMMU online. The form asks for your name and email. OMMU notes that, under Florida law, email addresses are public records. If a crime is involved, contact local law enforcement.7
