How to check a Delaware cannabis store

Look the store up on the Office of the Marijuana Commissioner’s (OMC) list of dispensaries before you buy. The business name and street address should match the store you plan to visit. Licensed stores must also display their active license inside. If the store isn’t on the list, or it offers to deliver to you as an adult customer, don’t buy there.

1. Find the store on OMC’s list

OMC keeps a list of dispensaries that serve both medical patients and adult customers.1 When sales began, OMC told shoppers that only purchases from licensed retailers are legal, and pointed them to its website for the list of authorized locations.2

  1. Go to OMC’s list of dispensaries .
  2. Find the business name. The list groups each business’s locations under its name.1
  3. Check that the street address matches the store you plan to visit.
  4. At the store, look for the license. Licensed stores must display their active license where the public can see it.3

OMC’s list shows names and addresses only. We did not find a public search tool with license numbers or license status. If a store isn’t on the list, ask OMC before you buy.

2. In the store, and if someone offers delivery

  • Staff must check a government photo ID that shows you are 21 or older, or a valid medical marijuana card.3
  • A store can’t sell you more than 1 ounce of flower, 12 grams of concentrate, or products with 750 mg of delta-9 THC in one sale.4
  • Licensed stores can’t sell online or deliver to adult customers. You can pre-order online and pick up in the store.3
  • State officials say anyone offering adult-use delivery is operating illegally. Scammers have handed out fake flyers using a real store’s name.5
  • Registered medical patients may get home delivery from licensed dispensaries.5 Visitors with a medical card from another state can apply online to buy in Delaware.7

3. Check the label and keep the package

Licensed products carry Delaware’s universal symbol, the warning “For use by adults 21+. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!”, the batch number, the names of the business that made it and the store that sold it, and the Delaware Poison Control Center phone number.3

Edibles may have up to 10 mg of THC per serving and 100 mg per package. Their labels must warn that effects may be delayed by 2 or more hours.3 You can ask the store for a copy of the lab’s certificate of analysis.3

Keep the package. If OMC orders a recall, the batch number helps you match your product.

Hemp and CBD shops are different

A gas station, convenience store or hemp shop is not an OMC-licensed marijuana store. OMC warns that unregulated hemp-derived THC products are not tested like licensed products and may contain harmful compounds.6

If something doesn’t look right

State rules say you can send a complaint about a marijuana business or product to OMC by email at OMC@delaware.gov.3 You can also call OMC at 302-244-3662 , or the Medical Marijuana Program at 302-269-7349 .8

If you think a product made you sick, call Poison Help first.
